Overview of the Canadian Visitor Visa

The Canadian Visitor Visa is a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) that allows individuals from eligible countries to visit Canada for a short period. Whether the purpose is leisure, business, or reuniting with family, this visa allows individuals to explore Canada’s culture, reunite with loved ones, and create lasting memories.

Who Needs a Visitor Visa?

Not all travelers require a visa to enter Canada. Nationals from visa-exempt countries must apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). However, individuals from non-exempt countries are required to apply for a Visitor Visa before traveling. Ensure you check IRCC’s list of visa-required countries to confirm your status.

Family Visits: Reuniting With Loved Ones

Family reunification is one of the most common reasons for a Canadian Visitor Visa. This visa allows close family members and relatives to visit their loved ones who are residents of Canada.
Eligible Family Members
• Spouses or common-law partners
• Dependent children
• Parents and grandparents
Under certain conditions: siblings, nephews, nieces, or grandchildren

Preparing & Submitting Your Application

Applicants must complete the online application or submit it through a Visa Application Centre (VAC) with all required documentation. Ensure all forms are filled out correctly and that truthful information is submitted to avoid delays or refusal. Biometrics may also be required.

Duration and Extensions

A Visitor Visa is generally valid for up to 6 months per entry. Final duration and conditions are at the discretion of the visa officer. Extensions can be requested from within Canada by applying to IRCC before the current status expires.
