Reunite with your loved ones and support their future in Canada through the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP).

Program Overview
The Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship (PGP) program allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their biological or adoptive parents and grandparents to become permanent residents.
● IRCC accepts interest-to-sponsor forms once per year
● Sponsors are selected through a randomized invitation process
● If selected, you typically have 60 days to submit a full application
Due to high demand, only a limited number of invitations are issued annually (e.g., 20,500 invitations in 2024).
Eligibility to Sponsor
You may sponsor your parents or grandparents if you:
● Are at least 18 years old
● Are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a registered Indian
● Live in Canada (you cannot sponsor from outside Canada)
● Meet the income requirement: You must meet or exceed the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) for 3 consecutive tax years prior to applying, based on LICO + 30%
You must also:
● Sign an undertaking to financially support the sponsored family members for 20 years
● Not be bankrupt, under removal order, or in default of previous sponsorship
The Sponsorship Process
1. Submit Interest to Sponsor Form during the annual intake window
2. Wait for Invitation from IRCC if selected in the random draw
3. Submit Complete Application within 60 days of receiving invitation
4. IRCC Processing includes review of income, eligibility, and medical exams
5. Receive Decision — if approved, the parent(s) or grandparent(s) become permanent residents
Alternative Option — Super Visa
If you are not selected under the PGP, you can still bring your parents or grandparents on a Super Visa, which allows:
● Up to 5–10 years of multiple entry
● Extended stays of up to 5 years at a time (no need to renew every 6 months)
● Private medical insurance and proof of financial support are required
